1. What is the Regular Attendance Policy?
Each student is required to attend at least 3 sessions (6 hours) per month. However, a student is allowed to use these 3 sessions for different subjects/courses.
This policy exempts the long break (the months of June and July for students in the academic year August-June, and the months of November and December for students in the academic year January-November).
2. Why have you introduced the regular attendance policy?
We have noticed that a few students do not attend sessions regularly. Consequently, they attend many sessions just before important tests/assessments to review an extensive part of their syllabus. Such last-minute preparation usually leads to increased levels of stress and lower grades. Regular attendance would help to overcome these issues and lead to better grades.
Regular attendance also allows our teachers to be familiar with the students’ academic background and helps us to quickly detect their weaknesses or gaps. We can consequently support your child in an effective manner by devising a tailor-made strategy to help improve his/her performance.
It should be noted that by being more regular, students will simply spread the same number of sessions over a longer time period. This will provide them with more assimilation time in between each session, leading to a higher degree of content retention.
Additionally, this will also help instill academic discipline and good study habits.
3. What is the outcome if a student attends less than 3 sessions in a particular month?
The student will be charged for 3 sessions in that month.
However, we do not encourage this behavior. If we observe that a particular student repeatedly does not attend at least 3 sessions monthly while paying for it, we may proceed to discontinue the student and refund the remaining credit.
The sole idea behind this policy is to instill academic discipline, and the charge is designed to act as a deterrent from irregular attendance.
If your child feels confident about a subject and does not need regular help to cover the concepts, we can help him/her achieve a higher level of proficiency by going through challenging questions or preparing him/her for competitive exams. We can also create a more personalized study plan that delve deeper into specific concepts beyond the school curriculum to further enrich your child’s academic journey.
4. What is the outcome if a student attends more than 3 sessions in a particular month?
If a student attends more than 3 sessions, the actual number of sessions attended in that month will be charged.
5. My child lives far from the Centre and is unable to travel to the Centre on a regular basis. Is my child still subject to the regular attendance policy?
Yes. The regular attendance policy applies to all students without any exception. However, we understand that it is not always ideal for students to travel to and from the Centre given the time constraints. In this case, we encourage the child to have a mix of face-to-face and online sessions to overcome the time constraints.
6. Can my child attend the 3 sessions of class at any point during a particular month?
Yes.
However, we would advise students against attending all 3 sessions of class towards the end of the month just for the sake of completing the 3 sessions. This would defeat the purpose of the policy which is to encourage students to have sessions at regular intervals to improve content assimilation and retention.
7. We stay abroad, and my child comes to Singapore during the school break to attend intensive sessions at MathVision. Does this policy apply to us?
No. This policy does not apply to students who come to Singapore from abroad during the school break to attend intensive sessions at MathVision.
8. I feel that my child does not require regular sessions. What should I do?
We are happy to note that your child is independent and does not require extra support. If the new policy does not suit the needs of your child, you may ask for a refund by sending a WhatsApp message to Divesh Shah on +65 8444 2320. Your credit will be immediately refunded (No questions asked).
However, we are also launching another service called MathVision Express, where we will be providing 30-minute online consultations for students who need help sporadically. If you are interested in this offering instead, please WhatsApp Divesh Shah on +65 8444 2320 to learn more about it.
9. Will I be subject to the Regular Attendance Policy if I do not attend at least 3 sessions (6 hours) in a particular month due to:
(i) Travelling
(ii) Being medically unfit to take lessons?
Our policy is a fair one. We understand that students may not be able to attend regular sessions if they are travelling or not keeping well in a particular month.
Hence, the Regular Attendance Policy will NOT apply for that particular month.
Parents are requested to inform Mr Divesh Shah by WhatsApp on +65 8444 2320.
